About Haters and A wall of criticism.

As many of you know I’ve been out at sea since June and just got back at the beginning of the month – it was a great contract working with some great people. I am just getting back into writing again and making some new courses. But before I get into that, I want to talk about harassment in the maritime industry.

I reported someone for harassment and poor behavior last year. Since then I have been receiving emails – some of which by the IP address suggest that they are from the person whom I reported. Some such emails are presented below in A wall of criticism.

I don’t feel that we are moving forward as a maritime community or even as humans if some people feel that it is acceptable behavior to send these kinds of messages to others – or even worse that they are under the misguided assumption that they are in some way helping.

I feel that these people are unhappy and feel helpless – these people want to disrupt all of the people whose they feel have risen above them: or have to potential to. These people are increasingly known as Haters. The spend their time putting other people down and criticizing them. These people don’t use their time to learn or teach or encourage. I have stopped replying to them as it is a pointless exercise and a great waste of time.

“If any man despises me, that is his problem. My only concern is not doing or saying anything deserving of contempt.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

They are the same as the Luddites who resist technologies because it will change their lives. To continue they will have continue learning and growing – they just want to freeze time and stop progress.

“The critic hates most that which he would have done himself if he had had the guts.”
― Steven Pressfield, The War of Art

I get angry messages from haters – as does everyone else who has ever shared an opinion publicly about anything. I get messages from sexist, crude sad men who failed to achieve with their lives their dreams. I feel sorry for them and pity them. I, however, do not give their options any credence and if you have haters – you shouldn’t regard them either. Haters aim only to keep the status quo and are fearful of change and progress.

“When another blames you or hates you, or people voice similar criticisms, go to their souls, penetrate inside and see what sort of people they are. You will realize that there is no need to be racked with anxiety that they should hold any particular opinion about you.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Welcome, to a wall of criticism – I will share remarks that have been sent to me. I know you have also had remarks like this sent to you. I don’t let these remarks bother me – they are only written by sad old men who have no better use for their time. I really pity those poor souls, how unfulfilling their lives must be.

Don’t forget that you are doing something that threatens them – otherwise, they wouldn’t send you anything. What you do it worth while! Keep doing it! They are just afraid of you and what you are creating.

Without further ado – Also some of these comments are NSFW and crude. Many were sent from fraudulent email addresses. I haven’t spent time correcting them, most are full of bad assumptions and lies  – but such is life on the internets…

A wall of criticism:

“How can we help? We have been receiving inquiries about your site. As it turns out – it portrays you of having extensive experience – and at first glance projects you as an experienced Chief Officer. This may be some kind of marketing ploy – but it is dishonest – and represents questionable character. Please re-think how you project your business – as Honesty is the best policy.”

“We are receiving a lot of inquiries regarding how you are coming across in the industry. Please understand – people do check out your site – to which in revealed your actual sea time within the industry. Some good advise: get more sea time – sail on your license. As a start – work on the relationships with employers – many of which apparently will not take you back as you know. In other words – quit making us look bad out here! The blogs we have seen are very damning on your character. Suggest you straighten up and realize people can and do research the authors background.”

“Dear Third Mate Burton,
If you could – please change your Twitter description claiming you are actively sailing as Chief Mate. As you know – this is a blatant lie and people are noting it. This deception will hurt your reputation in the long run – and it reflects on our Academy in the character issue of our graduates.
Try and be a little bit more forth coming – and honest ok.

“Every once in awhile an individual comes through within our industry as a shining light and an inspiration. Let it be known that Jacqueline Burton is NOT that individual. When you decided to rip off
some folks through your COEVAL online course – a few of us got together and started to investigate some things.
As it turns out – you lack the moral integrity and honesty here. Your writings are tailored for a specific group of people – MARINERS, but you fail to understand that we can see right through a lot of what you claim.

Some things which are apparent: 1) you claim to be an active sailing Chief Officer on your twitter account. This is NOT true, the majority of your time in your 7 total years since graduation has been as 3nd Mate, however you project yourself off as a Chief Officer in a very experienced capacity. We found out that nearly all of your shipping jobs when completed – you were NOT welcome back. Now that’s one hell of a reputation!2) “The Day you almost died” BS story. Does it make sense to anyone – that if someone recalls an observation 8 years ago – and none since – that it may be a little bit on the bs end of the scale?
“I have learnt a lot since then”….. come on – learn how to spell! You mean “you have learned a lot since then”. Three years since you got your Chief Mates license – and working on getting Masters soon. That won’t happen sailing as Third Mate! Quit ripping people off and BS’ing them.
3) What’s this Touchy feely ‘feelings’ BS? You sound like a real basket case lady! I can only imagine what it would be like sailing with you. Most likely a cross-breed between Dr. Zuesses worst nightmare and a train wreck experience.4) Other observations: You have a pretty mouth ( in reference to the movie Deliverance – scene 138 )….. it’s a safe bet your being exposed now.”
Please stop exaggerating your credentials to fellow mariners. As it turns out – you have no Chief Mate time within the industry – but make out like you are an old hat within various subject matters. Please respect this industry by having a little class.
think you should stop BS’ing fellow mariners in our industry. Your a 7 yr. experienced THIRD MATE, but try and come across as some experienced Chief Mate – and a lot of us are noticing what you are falsely attempting. You were a loner back in school – and thought very high of yourself. Your parents went the wrong way in doing this home school route with you – look what it produced…….. a looser! It was discovered 9 out of 10 vessels to work on – your NOT welcomed back. What does that state alone speaks volumes. Stay barefoot and pregnant – do us all a favor. Quit BSing mariners who can see through you.”

“Jaquiline, – been following tour posts on G-Captain and checked out your site. Very good presentation and attempts to introduce industry to a new and different approach to Marine Safety and awareness. My good friend (Brett) works for PPG Marine paint distributor – and I ( Walter ) work for NCB. Both have licenses and can relate to your passion. We have noted in your introduction that you seem a bit striving for attention and recognition – which is a good thing. Nothing wrong with trying to make a difference in an industry we all love.On our off time away from the Maritime industry – we venture into treating the ladys with 100% attention. Brett sports 8″”, cut. I sport 7 – 3/8″” – thick. Both Shaved and STD free. We go to weddings with the pursuit of meeting the brides maids to give them a good 2-on-on time. Our philosophy – its all about the lady ! Brett and I are into doing 1 woman at a time – 2-0n-1. Both heavy cummers last for hours – safe and discreet – buffed and circumsized. 35 and 36 yrs. old. Our biggest success on this venture over the past few years is to hook up with those nice ladys who seem unnoticed and looking for full attention – 2 on 1 for the experience of a life time. Total 100% privacy is assured and expected. As a Mariner – I must admit you seem a little disapointerd with your modern mariner creed and intro on your site – out to be recognized for a passion which know doubt you have. We can both make you feel appreciated. Our goal – show women that they can be appreciated and respected. Have any desires – doiuble penetration, dual facials – etc – we are here for you. Need lessons on giving the greatest head ever – we can talk you throught it. Your HOT ! Noticed a few comments on some bloggs out there about what you really think of your husband ( did you really state he is a geek? ) Is he into watching? – no problem with this as long as all in agreement and he does not freek out with watching you take some serious yardage and bringing you to a peek he can’t.
We are registered on Ashley Maddison – so if you write back with any interest we will send you our unique profile. If you have a friend we can accomodate also. We operate on East Coast.
You have done a wonderfull job on your sites. The DISTRESS SIGNAL Youtube cought my eye. We would like to show you a very good time – and will travel to you if interested in a meet-up. We pay for the room – dinner, and good time. 110% discresion guranteed and expected. SAFE SEX always.
Guranteed to satisfy you to a point you have never been…. : ). Our creed = “”It’s all about the lady””.
All our best,
Walter & Brett
By the way your sites and you tube site is set up – I can tell your a lonely woman trying to sell our industry experience you do not have. I would guess your time is no higher than 2m at best. Think about WHO you are writing to. Experienced Mariners – “”Modern”” or otherwise soo right through you. Get more experience in a leadership and decision making position OTHER THAN following night orders or cargo orders. Be a leader in a licensed capacity other than the above before attempting to explain how it works.”
Just some good advise. Why are you not sailing CM Full time with LNG company? States a lot!”

“You speak really highly of yourself. Do you not think Mariners see right through your credentials? You don’t have enough time out here to impress anybody. I would bet your most likely not welcomed back on any vessel you sail on. Just an observation.”

“Looking over your articles and posts – it is apparant that you can research topics – thence publish your findings. Great! However – anyone can tell you severly lack practical long-term experience in the field. From the various bloggs out there – you tend to let your alligator moth overload your hummingbird ass with inter-relationships onbouard – up to and including you not being welcomed back to anyone you work for due to the uprour of your crew. Work on that before you make a real name for yourself!”

“I believe in the bloggs about you and concur. You have a pretty mouth!”

“I don’t know how much time you have in the industry – but you sound very naive and misinformed in your writings. Regarding your stance on eventual unmanned vessels – have you any thoughts on how this action would sustain our pensions? I’m talking ALL MARINERS PENSIONS. All Mariners, Unions, Maritime academy’s are against this. SHIPPING COMPANY’S are for it.

Your a first class idiot for promoting this – as a mariner with severe lacking out-side-the-box thinking capability. S”

After spending 32 years at sea I can honestly attest that your approach is BS – refering to people as cowards vs. your “being brave” point of view. I don’t know you from Adam – but after reading your posts, publications and philosophy – I would bet heavily that:1) you are a loner
2) not well liked onboard
3) out to prove yourself to a very old industry
4) most likely not welcomed back to any previous employer
5) very argumentative
6) dealing with a superiority complex which effects your relationships with shipmates.
7) not very experienced – but strives to prove otherwise
8) to have any self worth – must prove yoursself with recognition by others
9) the probability of being home-schooled is very likely…… how close of an evaluation is this?  – Capt. Chip Greely

“Hi Coeval – saw your add and pic on voting for best pretty mouth contest! You look fabulous and would not guess or predict the pic is a photo shop[.
I vote YES! Would love to ring your bell. Do you go both ways?
